Acoustic impulse response of young coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) fruits in relation to maturity CIGR Journal
Suministrado, Delfin C..
Acoustic impulse responses of young coconut fruits were analyzed using Fourier analysis and the correlation of signal characteristics with the mucous-like stage, cooked rice-like stage and leather-like stage maturity levels was determined. Analyses of sound signals of unshaved and shaved fruit samples were performed to determine if the difference in acoustic response could help enhance the differentiation of the fruits at different maturity levels. Results of statistical analysis showed that the frequency of the impulse response of the unshaved fruits increases with maturity levels and are significantly different from each other, while those of the shaved fruits are not. Also, results of regression analysis showed that as the fruits mature and the meat or...

Length measurements on Pseudotolithus elongatus ' samples from the Congo were recorded in the 60s. Subsamples were collected in order to be "aged" by otoliths' reading. The size frequency distributions were splitted into successive unimodal distributions by different methods. Their results were compared. The results obtained from the "successive maximums' method" were similar to those from the "otoliths' reading." The programs NORMSEP and MIX gave results far more difficult to interpret biologically speaking in spite of their mathematical quality. Because many length frequency distributions of a cohort are symmetrical in nature, we suggest applying the "successive maximums' method"if there is no evidence of normality

Donnees sur les gasteropodes dulcicoles de l'ouest de la France: Mise en evidence de cinq groupes d'especes (ACP) ArchiMer
Costil, F.
24 Species of Gastropoda, representing 3357 specimens, have been sampled in 57 varied ponds of Brittany (France). The most frequent species (at least in 10% of the samples) are considered according to their average abundance and dominance. The average specific richness of the ponds where the species have been collected is studied. In a second stage, the Gastropoda are analysed by means of a principal component analysis. The 1-2 plane correspond to 87% of the whole variance. This analysis associated with a cluster analysis led to the partition of 5 groups of species.
